Happy New Year! Win 2400 Cartel Coins (Closed)

I've decided to ring in the new year in a slightly different manner this year, namely by holding a little giveaway for my readers!

And the lucky winner, determined by an in-game /roll 30 (the number of entries), is...

Commenter #3, fellow blogger Ravanel from The Red Eclipse!

Congratulations! :D

The prize:

While I visited my family in Austria for Christmas, I purchased a 2400 cartel coin code in a local shop. Here's the box in all its German glory:

No, of course I won't send that to anyone, that would be silly. The winner will simply receive the code to claim their coins in their in-game mail.

Store-bought cartel coins come with different mini pets depending on where you bought them, and since these are from Austria, they will also grant one of your characters a Forest Nekarr Cat.

How to enter:

There are two requirements for entering this giveaway.

1. Leave a comment in response to this post telling me about a happy SWTOR memory. (I was going to say "your happiest" at first but didn't want anyone to fret about whatever they had thought of right then really was their happiest moment or merely in their top ten - it's kind of silly but I know it's the kind of thing I would do.) Anything SWTOR-related will do, whether it was directly caused by something that happened in the game or only tangentially related, e.g. that time you had a real-life meetup with all of your SWTOR guildies and it was awesome.

2. At the end of your comment, leave your character name, faction and server name. This is so I have a way of contacting you if you win! This doesn't have to be your main if you're shy, just somewhere where I can mail the code if you win so that you will actually receive it.

The blog is set up to allow anonymous comments, so as long as you can cope with CAPTCHAs you don't have to sign up with any third party service like OpenID to participate. However, should you still have issues commenting on this post for some reason, feel free to drop me an e-mail with what your comment was supposed to be and I will post it for you.

Who wins?

While I hope that people will leave thoughtful comments that will be enjoyable to read, they won't be rated by quality and the winner will be drawn at random from all eligible participants. You have until 7 am GMT on the 6th of January to enter (you'll have to check yourself when that is in your local time zone), at which point I'll close the comments for this post and announce the winner later in the day.

Happy New Year!

  2. The happiest moment for me was when i was on Jedi Covenant and join a Guild called Dungeon & Jawas, I had logged on on my birthday and the GM bought me the whole Eradicator outfit on the Cartel Market for my birthday. I still wear it proudly on the same character. It was the first time I had ever been given a gift in a game. It was the nicest thing.

  3. Hey, this is fun!

I think my happiest SWTOR experience is not captured in one particular moment, but in reoccurring moments, namely the reincarnation of my guild, Asylum, in SWTOR. We played together in LOTRO, but when that game went downhill everyone went their own ways in other games. I always felt it was such a shame, because we really had something.

Getting everyone to play SWTOR was a major undertaking that was successful mostly due to Conrad's enthusiasm and perseverance. Of course not everyone found their place in SWTOR, and we also got to know new people, but we still have the same atmosphere, the same feeling of belonging. Every raid is like coming home.

If I have to mention a particular moment, it will have to be when we finally met a fellow guildie we had played with for years in England. He just left us the key to his house - I'll never forget the trust and friendship. This is starting to get a blog post of its own, so I'll leave the rest of the story (you can read it here: http://ravalation.blogspot.nl/2015/09/nora-in-oxpring.html).

  4. hi

I think i will participate with my most recent happy moment :)
So: I'm really almost exclusively a PVE guy, but recently i lvled a tank from scratch, and when double XP hit i started doing warzones for its generous XP reward. One time i got to a deathmatch (this is what hc pvpers call yolo, right???) and there was a healer guy who was simply awesome. Now, i usually dont play as a tank in pvp, just put on dps gear and try to toss out some dmg, but this healer made me change my mind! I guarded him (or her?) tried to use all my tools to hamper the opposing team's effort and man, we were INVINCIBLE! Even if i know well that i'm nowhere close to an average pvp player.
This was maybe the first time i seriously started to wonder that pvp might even be fun (and i play for 2 years now :) )

  5. Hiya.

A happy SWTOR memory for me involves the Rakghoul Resurgence event on Alderaan. My Empire guild wanted to kill Shellshock the open world boss that was up. However a republic guild was already fighting him. So we kept pulling him to reset, grab him and killed him ourselves. Afterwards we flag ourselves for PVP and kill all the republic people who were flaged. It was kinda of shady, but it is still a happy memory for me, because I sucked at PVP warzones and it was nice to see the tables turn for once.

  6. One of my first happy SWTOR moments was when the guild I had formed of a few friends prior to launch was finally able to overcome Soa in EV. It felt very Star Wars to me because we were a small mixed bag of long time friends and new acquaintances that were able to get the job done. May not have been as elegant as a New Hope, or the Force Awakens, but we did it.

  7. Wow! What a generous contest!

I've been playing swtor since launch (off and on) so I have a lot of happy memories from running our own raiding guild at launch, all the various stories, swapping between pub and imp originally...

I think my happiest / most significant memory was playing my original story, a trooper, my first character. Just the huge difference that swtor play offered with the voiced stories was so impressive, but the Jaxo storyline / choice really resonated with me. It's why I fell in love with this game. I still agonize over it ;)

  8. My best moment with swtor was like right after launch, after finally being able to enter the game and creating my inquisitor. I ran around korriban and thought "wohoo, lightning". that moment was only topped right after korriban, doing black talon for the very first time where all players actually wanted to read and experience all cutscenes and nobody used "omg skip".

  9. One of my happiest moments was a few years ago, when I finally got enough Gree reputation to buy that really nice and cool-looking armour. Then modding it, running around on the fleet being proud as hell and receiving whispered compliments. Yeah, I was kind of easy to please those days! But seriously, I wanted to get my hands on this armour as soon as I saw it because it just looks so very Tron-y and I adore the movies.

  10. Happiest memory is War on yavin. And imp guild on jung ma that is prone to gang ganking was gearing up to fight the revanite walker. They had about 20 i had a team of 4 pubs with nothing to lose. So we wait for the fight to start and rush in. We kill 4 or 5 inps before they notice us and kill us but their op is badly wounded but still fighting. So then the rest of my guild jumps in and evens the odds. We massacre the imps and proceed to kill the walker. Then we spend the next 3 hours fighting all over yavin. Ahhhh good times! For the republic!

  11. Happy new year.
There used to be a you tuber named aruced. He was big in to pvp. I used to be on his server when black hole released we were killing pubs. We pushed them all the way to the pub base. I called him out on Twitter . He showed up it was 20 on 20 back and fourth for hours. Then it got late and people started logging off. Best pvp I have had in years in a mmo.

  12. I recall many happy memories and I'm going to tell about a recent one. When hunting Overheated Gift Droids during the Life Day event, my smuggler was challenged to a duel. I was like "Oh, okay then" and accepted - it was my very first duel with someone outside pvp warzones. I was doing pretty good and people in general chat were rooting for me, told me to kick his ass. Then suddenly my target disappeared and I got worried for a moment, but as soon as he reappeared, I stunned him and finished him off. People in general chat were congratulating me and I wondered what's the big deal with defeating this guy. It turned out that he had been spamming people with duel invites and won the duels by cheating somehow. I'm still not sure what was going on, but what made me happy was the people rooting and cheering for me.

  13. I just want to share a happy moment, no prize entry. I had waited for this game for 7 years. SWG had lost its way, so I played WoW for those years. When our SWG guildies heard about this game, it was so exciting. When it launched, I took a week off work to play.

My moment was just riding the speeder on Republic Taris. Enjoying the scenery, the planet story, and just being back in Star Wars again. So simple, but I remember that moment to this day.

  15. Well, there are a lot of happy memories tied up in this game.

I was living in Houston while my wife lived in Georgetown (3 hour drive away) for a couple years. I drove home most weekends, but during the week we spent a lot of time together in the game. Hitting 50 together, finishing off her main's storyline.

But sometimes we'd just get online and jump in Teamspeak and just goof off. My wallpaper is from one of those times with our mains on fleet. We were trying to set up good screen shots of our toons like a photographer setting up a portrait shoot.

  16. I've been playing this game since, well almost since it came out! I have learned to love this game, and SWTOR had become one of my most favorite games I've ever played! I've made plenty of characters over the years, but I have to say that some of my most memorable moments have come from playing with my cousins and friends and just having a great time running around terrorizing anyone who stands in our way! There were times when we just ran around completing 20 or so heroixs, just for the credits and experience. I've learned that it is so much fun when you have someone or many someones to enjoy such a wonderful experience with! My name is Josiah Bell, and my happiest moments have been with those I love.

  17. When I was 13 years old I moved with my parents to New York. Where I came from, I didn't have many friends. There was however this one girl who was always nice to me and we became best friends. When I moved, I lost contact with her, this was about 6 years ago.

When I got the game a couple of weeks back and I started playing, there was this one player that I always formed a group with. A couple of days ago when we were chatting I was telling that player about me moving with my parents. After having chat for about half an hour, I asked if his/her name was Samantha( my old friend) accidentaly.

Turns out, this player was actually my old friend Samantha. Ever since, we talked a lot and have been catching up on the last years. She even came over for Christmas.

So I can say that this is by far my most happy memory of SWTOR.

  18. I remember being really pumped when my first toon, my Smuggler, got his ship. Exploring it for the first time, then, seeing all the different sectors and planets. It really felt like a big, vast place with a ton of stuff to do. I think I went to Ilum or some other higher level planet and was promptly killed by some cute little creature. Thanks.

  21. My happiest moment playing this game was when I was doing a group op against the world boss on Coruscant. 12 of us ran up there, no healer just a bunch of Jedi's swinging our lightsabers around and got all of us killed within half a minute. Funny because we were all thinking it'd be too easy and then we got killed or knocked off the edge into the bottomless Coruscant abyss, and we were all yelling at each other and laughing about how we got our ass kicked and resembled a group of disabled monkeys. It made me happy because it brought the human element of joy, humor, and Monty Python-like situational comedy that makes me giggle, seeing 10 of 12 people pop up on my screen as " '' has been defeated" and then all of us getting back on our mounts and hurrying back to the World Boss. Never did get the group loot though!

  22. My happiest moment in SWTOR was: My brother and I were playing PvP. We we on the map Novare Coast. I was tank he was dps. Our team did not seem very coordinated but we were determined to win. There was a point in the game where the west node was being capped and we need to act fast as that would be our downfall. 2 nodes to 1 we were losing. Our base health was around 20 and theirs was 80. Back at the west node 3 enemy players had just killed the last defender. I run up to the them using all my cooldowns and stuns, not forgetting to call "WEST". I ended up holding them off the whole time but I died. We moved on to capping south and the battle was ours. I remember post match me and my brother were talking about what happened and we were both so exited!

    Happy New Year!

  23. Trust me on this, I don't want the coins. (Appreciate the offer, but I subscribe, and I rarely dip into my coin amount.)

Anyway, I just wanted to mention that Santa dropped a little something to the tune of three Cartel Coins cards into the mini-Reds' stockings. At least they now have a few coins to burn in any fashion they see fit....

  24. I remember when I was leveling my Main and I was running around Tatooine doing some missions and I ran across the Sarlacc for the first time. I had just helped another player kill some mobs when s/he said to me "you get an achievement for jumping into the Sarlacc". So at the same time we both jumped in and my achievement popped up. That just stuck out to me as one of things I love about this game.

  28. Completing the Gree/Black Bisector mission chain for the first time on Coruscant is one of my happy and crystal-clear memories of SWTOR. It's fun, entirely optional, early content but it has highly amusing dialogues and as a linguist it really struck a chord with me with the arcane speech of the mission-giving protocol droid clearly having originated in a very different alien-mind.

  30. One of my favorite memories is from the second iteration of the Gree event. I joined a WB party and even though the leader said we were going to clear both WBs, everyone knew it probably wasn't going to happen. They were both pretty popular (not sure if they're still big now), so finding one actually up was the first battle, and then dealing with other people taunting away/resetting and getting flagged for PVP was the second.

It was a really lucky night because we downed both WBs...three different times in a row.

  31. My favorite star wars memory was datacron hunting with a few guildmates for the "Datacron Master" achievement. It took a few weeks to get them all but it was super fun to parade around planets in a "varactyl caravan" style. The most fun one is where you have to go cliff diving on Corellia to land on a moving platform. We also raced to the Makeb datacron which was pretty fun and can be an exciting race. Fortunately just a few weeks later the developers announced the legacy datacrons, so our hard work was even more helpful!

Don't comment much but I do read a lot of your posts and really enjoy them - especially the 10 days of screenshots!

  34. A great if not the best memory i have since playing the game was on a late saturday night and i was with a group of guildies doing tatooine world boss for achievement run.
As we started chatting away waiting for the boss respawn, we noticed a sith assassin on his lonesome trying to harass us.
We started by greeting him as gentlemen we are.
Tried to invite him to dance with us, have a drink and asked if he wanted to join in if he had a republic character.
But the response he gave came in the form of harassing the lowest leveled guildie in our group.
What he got from that? a metric ton of rocks, enough to build a dam, some autocannon blaster rounds and a kick to his manly parts.
He then went on to call out his friends and on a moment's notice the dune sea on tatooine became what was later called in my guild a sith dance party!
This escalated to a point that other guilds got wind of what was unfolding and decided to join in the fun.
And with this i met a couple of people that would later create alts in our guild and we in theirs.
With time we created a tight knight group that helped out each other whenever help was needed.
All that was required was shout the phrase "Sith dance party" out loud and shortly after a group was formed to help out tackle whatever was needed to be tackled.

    And on a side note.
Keep the content coming, cause it's a breath of fresh air concerning the game's polar opinions around the vast internet.

  35. Thank you to everyone who entered, those were some lovely and interesting stories! I'm not surprised that so many of them featured other players, though I was surprised to see so many mentions of PvP (though I guess that's also "playing with other people", just in a different way).

Also nice to see T3-M4 represent, I like to think that even though I live in the UK and write and play in English, my heritage follows me still! :D

I will draw the winner later in the day.
